weekly updates

Announcements, guys!

YOUR WEATHER FORECAST FOR THIS WEEK IS: SUNNY!
That's right, guys! It's going to be beautiful and sunny until Monday, Sept. 6! Level playing fields, but who wants to battle? It's wonderful picnic weather!
Highs: 85ºF/29ºC. Lows: 64ºF/18ºC.

Also guys, we've received a few complaints about the overabundance of memes in the OOC community. We accidentally let it get a bit overboard and we don't want it to become too cluttered, so in a few days, we are going to make a meme-community for Route. For now and for the future, all memes posted in the game communities and the meme community must be mod approved. More details to come soon!

And don't forget our monthly activity check, which is.... the post right after this one!

Whoa huh-- Uh. I can understand wanting to mod the meme's on the ooc community since you're going to make a comm just for spamming/posting them, but will modding them on the one you're making specifically for them really be necessary once you get it up?

I mean, compared to some games I play at the amount of meme stuff/polls I've seen here is super slow and small. And if people don't like to follow polls and stuff like that they could just not watch the comm you're making for them, you know? I just think it's kind of silly to add meme's of all things onto the list of stuff we would have pester the mods about.

Unless you were planning to not mod them at all once the actual community is made in which case DISREGARD THIS

I... actually second pretty much this whole post. The 'don't see a need to poke overwhelmed mods to post a meme to a meme-only comm', the 'seen comms with way way worse quantities of meme', all of it.

BUT ALSO THE 'DISREGARD THIS IF MISUNDERSTANDING'.

System or not, I'm just worried about-- like Snow pointed out-- a thing like mod permission needed for memes overwhelming you guys. But personally I've never seen a day when meme's have overloaded the ooc community or anything and the variety really depends on the players posting them more than anything.

... unless you're talking about the meme's people post in their character journals in which case I could understand the 'overload' like from that shipping one a few days back.

BUT EITHER WAY I will save any more rambling on this until you guys throw the comm together and I see the rules you have set up! I'm sure it'll probably all be fine and I'll look like a doofus for rambling.

I think maybe you should just set posting to the meme comm on moderated, then you can just go on every few days, pick out a couple meme posts from the queue and approve them, and basically control the meme influx. idk. C:

I second this idea, it's a good one!

because having a week of no memes end with a day of three or four or five memes is a well-organized system, of course.

not disagreeing with the "set the posting format as moderated" bit because if you (the mods) feel like keeping a meme/spam comm moderated then I'd probably vote for that rather than "go contact a mod first" because etc etc people have taken care of that --

but really, if people don't like the influx of many memes at once, running a meme comm by posting a bunch in a single day every few days kind of defeats the purpose.

ignoring, of course, that by not approving every meme for whatever reason (because I think the Route playerbase is mature enough to not try to post inappropriate memes or something that wouldn't get "approved," you know?) may or may not lead to "the mods are playing favorites with whose memes they post!!" complaints.

so yeah.

AHAHAH whoops.

I was actually a little worried too many memes would bother people-- that's actually why I've been trying to space out the ones I've had ideas for!

Nonetheless, I like the idea of a meme community! It should be fun and that way people who don't want to participate in the memes won't have to suscribe to it!

[identity profile] magical-logic.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I would also like to express concerns over the meme comm being moderated. Why exactly do you guys feel that's necessary? If it's concerns over the amount/frequency, isn't that more easily addressed by just saying "Hey guys try and keep it to no more than x memes per day, 'kay?" instead of increasing your workload? It just seems like you guys are busy enough already, y'know?

[personal profile] bakaitoukid 2010-09-01 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess this is because I come from another game with a meme community that gets about 2 - 3 memes posted to it a day, but I haven't felt like there has been a huge influx of ooc memes on the comm :|a But then again, what constitutes a lot differs from person to person, and isn't very relevant to the issue at hand, so it's a pretty moot point XD

What I echo are the concerns about the meme community being moderated for similar reasons above, only because asking the mods whether it's okay to post memes to the meme comm seems like it would become excessive work for you guys, and could ultimately discourage people from using the community at all since they might not want to bother you guys with something that seems so trivial. Membership for the meme community could be optional, and those who don't want to participate in memes (or have them clogging their flist) could just not watch it.

That said, I know you guys are experimenting with something new at the moment and have said if it doesn't work out you'll change it, so I'll trust what you guys do for now (since I also understand why you'd want to moderate it, I'm just not sure it'd be feasible for you guys and for people who want to post to the meme comm ^^;;). I personally think a meme/spam community is a really really good idea just because it does keep the ooc comm from being flooded with things that aren't necessarily game related. And, like I said, not everyone likes memes so it'd be easier for them to ignore meme-posts that way. And that is my two cents o7

I know people have already said this but... yeah, that just seems downright ridiculous, honestly. I get future ones being posted here needing to be mod approved and all, since a comm is coming, but needing to approve memes being posted in a meme community seems to me like us needing to run it by you before we can post a network post in our character journals. Just... completely ridiculous, I guess.

The way I see it, that just kind of takes the fun out of it for everyone, plus it makes more work for you guys in general when you're already at least decently backlogged with a lot of other stuff. We really don't even have that many in the first place, I mean we really haven't, and having to run them by you guys... honestly, in my opinion, makes me think that people will just be discouraged from putting them up altogether, since people just go "Oh I just had a great idea for a meme, I'll go post it", not... "I'll wait for a mod to come on, see if they think it's a good idea, etc. etc. etc." That whole process, especially when there's going to be a community just for memes, seems kind of ridiculous and from the looks of it, this post could really just be shortened to a STOP HAVING FUN GUYS.

[identity profile] overthedratini.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
-- That said, yeah, it WAS a bit crazy when everyone was posting in their journals, but that happens so. \O_o/ Shirou-mun (I think?) did post on the OOC comm to try to help stop the flood, but people still kept going.

Just echoing what everybody else has been saying... I think it's a little silly to make a meme community and then require moderator approval.

I think you guys are having enough trouble keeping up with things as it is. And This would just be one more thing that will distract you guys from things like keeping the Taken Characters, Reserves, and Wanted updated. The fact that memes were supposed to be mod approved but never were just sort of proves that you guys don't have the time to waste.

Furthermore, what purpose would shooting you guys an IM serve? Nine times out of ten, you'll probably give them the green anyway (if you're even around to do so). Why not just set a daily or weekly limit?

I'm not super huge on memes, it just seems like... idk. Like it makes no sense. At all. ;|a

I've collected my thoughts (as opposed to the single whiny reply I made above), and this is how I figure:

If you make a comm to put memes on so they aren't in the way, it's pretty ridiculous to have to moderate the memes that go there.

I see nothing wrong with zero memes in a day or ten memes in a day. People can choose what to respond to or what to ignore altogether. As long as it's in its own meme comm and not clogging the OOC board, of course.

This is (to a much lesser degree) the same kind of sense that would say, 'Guys, you can only post X amount of posts per day. This may be a game dedicated to RPing, but only X amount of RPing is actually allowed.' Just replace 'game' with 'comm' and 'RPing' with 'memes' and you've got the logic behind this.

I think the problem is that you're combining two really good ideas into one really bad one.

Idea 1: It'd be a really good idea to turn us loose in a meme comm to meme to our heart's content.
Idea 2: It'd be a somewhat good idea, adversely, to keep memes in the OOC comm but require mod approval so it doesn't get crowded.

Bottom line is: What benefit does limiting the memes in a meme comm yield? Does that benefit really outweigh the fact that this now discourages well-meaning muns from posting fun little side-games in between RPing, provided it isn't in the way at all? Or the fact that at this point, muns are starting to wonder what they are allowed to do without mod approval?

Okay, I was wrong. Bottom line is: Don't stifle the creativity, dudettes. If it's not cluttering anywhere but its own comm, let the love live loud. |D

Yeah, I ran out of steam. You know I love you, Stormy, and I respectfully salute you too, Okami. This is just... one of those 'language barrier' type decisions. It doesn't seem like it should even be a big deal to you guys, but to a lot of us, it... sorta is?

NEKO TECHY MOD HERE FOR A LITTLE ANNOUNCEMENT...Sorta thing

[identity profile] saving-violins.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hey guys! Neko-techy mod here just to tell you all that everything concerning the 'meme problem' will be explained when Stormy-mod returns! We're going over everything you guys said and understand a lot of your concerns!

Now to return to your regularly scheduled cake filled program. /o/

[identity profile] aquatic-sitar.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I have absolutely no problem with the mod-approved meme comm thing. It's not that big a deal.

It's better than having to go through two pages on my flist because of an out-of-Route meme just to find actual RP posts.

It'll be all nice and organized and in one spot. It's not like the mods are going to shoot down many, if any of them.

I'm just not really seeing the point of being so concerned about this, I guess. The mods are reasonable, so it's not like we're going to have Meme Nazis going NO MEME FOR YOU.
