The below matchups are final and will not be changed, unless one participant is in the wrong bracket due to an oversight. Participants will have 7 days to give us Round 1 winners, at which point we'll be posting the next round's matches. Each round will be randomized to provide some diversity.

Due to the large number of rounds — 6 for Elite — we will be shortening the amount of time players will have to give us their answers, so that the last few Elite rounds will be spaced 3 days apart. If you're afraid of missing a date, just check the calendar for more information!

In the case that one partner goes missing, the person who attempted contact will win by default. If extenuating circumstances come into play, such as a personal emergency requiring a hiatus (with due warning to the mods and the battle partner), we will flip a coin.

Update: players facing off against gym leaders can have a coin flipped (default) or choose to strategize, in which case they should use the post here.

To post winners, please see this screened post! BOTH partners must comment with the name of winner in order for the victory to be valid. If not, see the above paragraph. If neither player comments, there will be no victor.

You can use this post to discuss your matches. If no consensus can be reached, the mods will flip a coin upon request.

Playing out the matches is highly encouraged, but optional! Here is an open log for all your battling needs! Bugsy, Whitney, Brock, Misty, Blaine, Surge and Blue will be competing in the tournament and will also be participating in the open log, under the account these_guys.

The prizes at the very end of the tournament will be one (1) fossil and one (1) reusable Unova TM, both chosen by the winners.

Then I wish you a speedy recovery! Bad enough there's little rest, but I do hope you get better soon. Haha, what was that about annoying tactics? It doesn't do much, but with STAB and a Swords Dance backing it up in a Metagross, it's pretty effective by itself! The Hail is only a minor worry (but still a worry) due to Metagross being built like a tank and having a resistance to Ice, but it's not going to go down easily. Kimblee's probably not gonna like when Metagross decides to Protect - again - against that Earth Power. Since he likes aiming for the face so much, Metagross will make it easier for him and perform an Iron Head at his Mamoswine soon after.

Still, the fact that he made it this far says a lot! She's glad to have a worthy opponent in this final battle. She might not show it, but she'll be brimming with excitement and anticipation.

Honestly, he'd be disappointed if it went down early, haha; out of the things she came into this tournament with, the psychic spidertank is the one he pegged as being more than a bit of a worry. That said, however, he'll do you the courtesy of not aiming at Metagross' face this time when it comes close for that - he's going to be aiming for the entire damn field by trying to get an Earthquake off, as the one god he has yet to piss off (whichever that is, maybe Arceus) is going to let Snow Cloak actually do its thing for once and spare his ass for the next thirty seconds.

And he's...a little less restrained on the "not showing it" part, though for the time being he's keeping it to a lot of smirking; at least nothing's exploding at this point, as that would be getting the maniacal laughter and the crazy and the oh honey no, but now he's...looking very interested in all this and the commands are getting a bit manic-sounding, but at least the crazy laughter hasn't started yet.

Tricky Mamoswine! Thankfully Metagross has used a different move, so it's gonna Protect against that Earthquake and try to wait out the precious several seconds Mamoswine has in covering itself in the storm. It'll bump itself up with Iron Defense and another Double Team - probably the last it's able to do now. Now it'll just try and wait and endure whatever Mamoswine is gonna try and throw at it. Those seconds are ticking down!

Pfft, if he laughs like that, he'll remind her Li Shuwen, an Assassin who loved to give that sort of laughter when they were fighting. Bring it on!

He knows the chances of not hitting are rather high, due to the amount of Double-Teaming going on, and he's fully aware that Iron Defense is cutting down on how effective it's going to be to begin with; at the same time, Earthquake is honestly the best he has, and he's a shameless ground-type user most of the time anyway whose primary strategy, when Archer is not screaming at him to do otherwise, is "Spam things." And so he will be spamming things and fully prepared to have Carlisle taken out the next time that Metagross hits him; he's trying to plan for what he's throwing out there next, he's thinking the Ninetales if Carlisle goes down in the next turn. Even if Dorian kind of hates him because this is the second time running that he's thrown him out in the middle of a hailstorm, um.

Oh my, Metagross is gonna take one of those Earthquakes, but is only moderately fazed due to its excessive buffing. Just to quickly stop its spamming in between Protecting itself, Metagross will hit Kimblee's Mamoswine with another Bullet Punch.

Upon meeting the Ninetales, Metagross will Protect on first instinct in case of an incoming Fire-attack, then throw a Rock Slide at the fox.

...yeah, what with the buffing, that Bullet Punch is going to end it. You did well, Carlisle, you have earned so many damn treats for later, and...fox, you are going to get decidedly less treats if you don't stop whining at him.

That said, however, the first move Kimblee makes with Dorian won't be stopped due to that first instinct, though it rather will make things a bit less enjoyable - he's starting out with Imprison, which will, at the very least, get rid of Protect as a move for that Metagross. Rock Slide is going to be decidedly unpleasant, but Kimblee isn't moving to set up a full offensive just yet; he's going to want to try to drop that Metagross' attack and doing it normally isn't going to do anything thanks to Clear Body (...no, really, Archer, you have pretty much taught everyone in this battle far too much), so the next move is Will-O-Wisp to attempt inflicting a burn and getting the damage over time to stack with Hail's effect.

Oho, smart move, Kimblee! Saber will just tilt her head at that but not say anything.

Thanks to its previous use of maxing out its evasion, Metagross will dodge that Will-O-Wisp and bump itself up with another Swords Dance and raising its attack to near sky high levels. Looks like it's gonna try and take out that Ninetales or damage it severely enough if it's taken out in this round. Then it'll go for another Rock Slide.

That Rock Slide will be met with a Protect of Ninetales' own; following that, however, this is when Kimblee decides "screw restraint" and starts with Heat Wave, the logic there being that the wider the spread with the flames, the better his chances are. Or, if we're going to be blunt, his brain works on Shounen Anime Logic and FIRE FIRE YEAH is always a good option. Always. (Except when it's not, but we don't mention those times.)

OH WE'RE GOING ALL OUT, ARE WE? Heat Wave will be really damaging to Metagross after all this time, but it'll hang in there. It'll continue to move towards the Ninetales and throwing a Rock Slide at the fire fox... while its body is glowing with an incoming Explosion.

The unfortunate thing about using Explosion in such a way, honestly, is that this is how Kimblee and Archer train on a regular basis, to say nothing of the part where Kimblee is ridiculously familiar with explosions. So at least he knows to not completely flip out when faced with one; if anything he's...looking...a bit too eager for this, um.

However, that Rock Slide is going to be a problem; its accuracy isn't entirely guaranteed, however, and he's far more willing to take his chances attempting to get the Ninetales to evade the rocks and Protect against the Explosion than the other way around.

Saber will just smile widely at how that turned out and recalls her Metagross. As always, Machina will be be generously rewarded after the battle. With a flourish, Saber will throw out Praetor the Gyarados to tangle with Ninetales.

She'll start by using Dragon Dance and then summoning up a Surf to bear down on that Ninetales. Its Intimidate will also do a small play on the Ninetales, but for the most part, she's gonna try and finish the job Metagross started.

Well, while it's entirely possible that she'll be finishing Dorian off eventually, this round is not that round; Kimblee is switching out for the Absol again during that Dragon Dance because he honestly knows better than to try to battle this far uphill. With knowledge of the switch at this point, does that Surf still stand or would the tactic change?

Her Gyarados will stop and roar at the Absol. Ah, another leftoever from Metagross' fight... Still, she won't take him lightly! It'll do another Dragon Dance and quickly see what this Absol will try and do.

He'll be starting out with Double Team, because evasion is always a good thing; following that, however, Thunderbolt, because Kimblee has discovered that Absols can learn damn near everything.

...and that Explosion from earlier is pretty much resulting in KIMBLEE IS OVERSTIMULATED for what may end up being the rest of the battle, for reference; the attack calls are very manic and...yep we have acheived crazylaughing, crazylaughing is go.

Amongst Kimblee's laughing, Saber will arch a brow ("A spirited one, isn't he?") - although Saber might take his overstimulation as... perhaps something to exploit? - while her Gyarados Protects against that Thunderbolt.

Then she'll call out her Gyarados' name and her Gyarados will Roar out the Absol out of the round. Since the only remaining Pokemon he has is his Ninetales, once it comes out, Gyarados will summon a Whirlpool to surround it.

That's fine - it'll prevent him from switching out, but at the same time, he doesn't necessarily need to if he can force a switch on her end; that Whirlpool is going to successfully annoy the hell out of him and it's going to need to be dealt with because Dorian is Not Happy Right Now, but at the same time, first things first - consider that Roar returned, Saber (albeit...decidedly less terrifyingly), let's see what else he's looking at.

...he's also going to yell something after that Roar regarding the beauty of the aesthetics, by the way. Feel flattered, he doesn't do that often.

Ohhh, sorry, Ninetales. Gyarados is gonna Protect against that Roar and keep herself in the game. Then she'll pound an Aqua Tail on that Ninetales on top of the Whirlpool's small, but constant damage.

Saber's in Concentration mode right now, Kimblee. She only gets like this when she feels that the stakes are getting higher and higher... though she's no less excited.

Actually, he appreciates the reminder that you're going to be obnoxious with that - he's going to want to get rid of that Protect, first by throwing out one of his own against Aqua Tail, and then by utilizing Imprison again and seeing where they're going from there.

Kimblee himself tends to preform a bit...bizarrely when the stakes are high; that's at least partially why the crazy is coming out. You should see him when actual war is happening. And apparently this was a common thing in prison, judging by how unfazed the guards were by this sort of behavior. So yeah. Expect commentary and some incredibly manic behavior; it's less intentionally being distracting and more...not sure what to do with the overstimulation so let's do this shit.

Since he's also going to be annoying with that Imprison, Gyarados is gonna use Mimic and Imprison right back at Ninetales, which will Imprison both of them from using Protect and Roar. She'll do a final Dragon Dance after that and once again aim an Aqua Tail at Ninetales.

Well-played, however. Rest + Chesto Berry is going to be utilized once during that Dragon Dance, just because if he wants to have any prayer at all of surviving that it's to have to be at full health. He has nothing super-effective against this thing, but at the very least he is...going to cement this as just as much a battle of sheer obnoxiousness as anything else by firing off Confuse Ray, of all things.

...and it seems he's going to go down trying to annoy her, as next attack's going to end him, and Kimblee has nothing but the Absol again after that.

Kimblee's going to, at least, be treated to a Gyarados flailing for a moment as she's confused? It's unfortunate Saber didn't go with a berry that would counter that confusion, but! It might still be dangerous as they like to move around wildly at that as Gyarados' carefully cultivated iron will (Saber is strict, okay) will try to randomly break through this confusion... though, at one point, it will randomly use an Aqua Tail again on that Ninetales.

brb Absol, Gyarados is just gonna flail a bit until it snaps out of its confusion.

Well! He'll take the opportunity to Double Team a bit to bring up his evasion (again, thank you Roar) followed by another Thunderbolt now that Protect is disabled. You...flail the good flail over there, Gyarados.

Whether by some odd luck (maybe Arceus is getting its kicks from them both) that Thunderbolt will miss... on account of Gyarados slamming into the ground and rolling on its side. Thanks for the bit of unpredictability, Ninetales!

Saber is just gonna huff because that is so undignified (even if it temporarily saved her Gyarados' life).
