The Kanto Biregional Tournament: get your matchups here!
The below matchups are final and will not be changed, unless one participant is in the wrong bracket due to an oversight. Participants will have 7 days to give us Round 1 winners, at which point we'll be posting the next round's matches. Each round will be randomized to provide some diversity.
Due to the large number of rounds — 6 for Elite — we will be shortening the amount of time players will have to give us their answers, so that the last few Elite rounds will be spaced 3 days apart. If you're afraid of missing a date, just check the calendar for more information!
In the case that one partner goes missing, the person who attempted contact will win by default. If extenuating circumstances come into play, such as a personal emergency requiring a hiatus (with due warning to the mods and the battle partner), we will flip a coin.
Update: players facing off against gym leaders can have a coin flipped (default) or choose to strategize, in which case they should use the post here.
To post winners, please see this screened post! BOTH partners must comment with the name of winner in order for the victory to be valid. If not, see the above paragraph. If neither player comments, there will be no victor.
You can use this post to discuss your matches. If no consensus can be reached, the mods will flip a coin upon request.
Playing out the matches is highly encouraged, but optional! Here is an open log for all your battling needs! Bugsy, Whitney, Brock, Misty, Blaine, Surge and Blue will be competing in the tournament and will also be participating in the open log, under the account
these_guys.
The prizes at the very end of the tournament will be one (1) fossil and one (1) reusable Unova TM, both chosen by the winners.
Without further ado, here are the matchups for round 1!
Newest matchups will be listed on the screened post as soon as all the results have come in for that bracket, or on the deadline of the round (whichever comes first.) They will not be announced on the OOC community, because we don't want to spam.
If you have any questions, let us know!

Kimblee is under the general understanding that he has some sort of ridiculous score to settle with her and is more or less under orders to completely obliterate her in battle; unfortunately for Archer, he really doesn't care and is just hoping this will prove entertaining. He's in it for the challenge, after all
not anyone's revolution. He tends to lead with Absol; perhaps one day he will change that, but today is not that day - if she's the sort to pay attention to that sort of thing, he's done this in the previous four battles as well.
no subject
Haha, looks like they both want the same thing: entertainment. In response to Absol, she'll throw out her Metagross. If he's also watched her battles, Saber doesn't go by verbal commands, so Metagross will immediately whip up an Agility and Reflect to keep it up to speed keep its defenses high.
no subject
That aside, however, he'll start with Double Team to hopefully increase his chances of not immediately getting killed in the face, though his response to that Reflect is just going to be a bit of a smirk, followed by Flamethrower. He'll avoid getting in close for now, because he really, really does not want Ramsay getting punched by the Psychic braintank, and he's more than willing to sacrifice STAB/put up with Absol's less-than-stellar Sp Attack power in the name of exploiting type advantages.
no subject
Hey, if the Absol doesn't want to get too close, that's okay. Her Metagross will use a Protect to ward off that Flamethrower, which it will then follow up with a Signal Beam. This is mostly a lure, however, in case the Absol dodges or uses a Protect as well (thank you for the caution against Protect spam, Archer), the Metagross will aim a Bullet Punch at it.
no subject
That said! Archer has taught him well, and he actually will throw up Protect in the spirit of "oh my godddddddddddddddddddd why does literally everything learn Signal Beam, what the hell"; he'll take the Bullet Punch, which Ramsay won't be too pleased about, but he'll also be taking advantage of the fact that it requires contact and getting in close - he won't know what move she's using (and will be immensely grateful that it hits for far less damage than he suspects it might) but he'll take his chances with it in order to try getting off a Fire Blast directly into that thing's face.
no subject
Thanks to Metagross being, well... a tank that's smarter than a supercomputer, and due to the speed buff it got from the Agility, Metagross' response, despite being so close is another Protect (really, Archer, you just had to throw that around). Then it'll raise its strength with a Swords Dance and try to hit the Absol again with another Bullet Punch.
no subject
But yeah, he recognizes that Swords Dance as being a very bad thing in terms of Ramsay's potential for surviving too many physical hits; he'll be using Detect against that Bullet Punch (...just...for some variety, he supposes...) before rather abruptly switching out for the Mamoswine and getting some snowfall started with Hail, for the sake of boosting his evasion with Snow Cloak and bringing Blizzard's accuracy up should he need it.
no subject
Kimblee's decision will make Saber raise an eyebrow, but she won't comment on it. She'll just cross her arms and keep watching while her Metagross introduces a Double Team to its new competitor. After that, it's going to try and use Grass Knot on his Mamoswine.
no subject
And there actually is method to his madness, don't worry - that being that if he can't brute-force an attack due to Protect, he's going to be making this battle as annoying as possible and Carlisle has a lot of moves that can make battles wicked annoying. You're also going to learn quickly that he likes aiming for the face when his opponents come closer to initiate contact-making moves; as much as moves like Mud-Slap completely offend his sense of cleanliness, it's what he's going to be doing as soon as that Grass Knot starts coming into play. Assuming that isn't also Protect-spammed against or otherwise evaded, he's willing to potentially take damage for the sake of killing her accuracy further.
no subject
Ah, a battle to try and annoy the normally hot-headed Saber... which might work, but many keep forgetting she survived the conspiracies of Rome long enough to endure enough bullshit! Grass Knot isn't a physical move, but still, having Mud Slap thrown at its face isn't pleasent. It's not going to be Protected against, rather... it's going to meet Metagross' Substitute instead. It'll be retaliating back with a Brick Break, though.
no subject
...this is about the point when he will actually compliment you on being formidable there, Saber, because good lord.
no subject
Aw, I'm sure Kimblee also had some tough competition before her! She'd take that compliment with a laugh, and commend him for making this entertaining for her. Then she'll go back to her "hardly talking anymore" shtick, but she'll have a smirk on her face for a good while.
no subject
And he's had a lot of tough competition before her - Talim and Rose were good battlers and his victories against them came down to type advantages; Isaac and Cecil nearly took him out of the tournament and the victories were very narrow. Doesn't change the validity of the compliment any~ (...aka, yes, he is going to notice that smirking.)
no subject
Still, the fact that he made it this far says a lot! She's glad to have a worthy opponent in this final battle. She might not show it, but she'll be brimming with excitement and anticipation.
no subject
sob
Honestly, he'd be disappointed if it went down early, haha; out of the things she came into this tournament with, the psychic spidertank is the one he pegged as being more than a bit of a worry. That said, however, he'll do you the courtesy of not aiming at Metagross' face this time when it comes close for that - he's going to be aiming for the entire damn field by trying to get an Earthquake off, as the one god he has yet to piss off (whichever that is, maybe Arceus) is going to let Snow Cloak actually do its thing for once and spare his ass for the next thirty seconds.
And he's...a little less restrained on the "not showing it" part, though for the time being he's keeping it to a lot of smirking; at least nothing's exploding at this point, as that would be getting the maniacal laughter and the crazy and the oh honey no, but now he's...looking very interested in all this and the commands are getting a bit manic-sounding, but at least the crazy laughter hasn't started yet.
no subject
Pfft, if he laughs like that, he'll remind her Li Shuwen, an Assassin who loved to give that sort of laughter when they were fighting. Bring it on!

Upon meeting the Ninetales, Metagross will Protect on first instinct in case of an incoming Fire-attack, then throw a Rock Slide at the fox.
no subject
That said, however, the first move Kimblee makes with Dorian won't be stopped due to that first instinct, though it rather will make things a bit less enjoyable - he's starting out with Imprison, which will, at the very least, get rid of Protect as a move for that Metagross. Rock Slide is going to be decidedly unpleasant, but Kimblee isn't moving to set up a full offensive just yet; he's going to want to try to drop that Metagross' attack and doing it normally isn't going to do anything thanks to Clear Body (...no, really, Archer, you have pretty much taught everyone in this battle far too much), so the next move is Will-O-Wisp to attempt inflicting a burn and getting the damage over time to stack with Hail's effect.
no subject
Thanks to its previous use of maxing out its evasion, Metagross will dodge that Will-O-Wisp and bump itself up with another Swords Dance and raising its attack to near sky high levels. Looks like it's gonna try and take out that Ninetales or damage it severely enough if it's taken out in this round. Then it'll go for another Rock Slide.

The unfortunate thing about using Explosion in such a way, honestly, is that this is how Kimblee and Archer train on a regular basis, to say nothing of the part where Kimblee is ridiculously familiar with explosions. So at least he knows to not completely flip out when faced with one; if anything he's...looking...a bit too eager for this, um.
However, that Rock Slide is going to be a problem; its accuracy isn't entirely guaranteed, however, and he's far more willing to take his chances attempting to get the Ninetales to evade the rocks and Protect against the Explosion than the other way around.
no subject
She'll start by using Dragon Dance and then summoning up a Surf to bear down on that Ninetales. Its Intimidate will also do a small play on the Ninetales, but for the most part, she's gonna try and finish the job Metagross started.
