And I will always love yoooouuuu~
Valentine's Day is just over two weeks away, and boy, do we have stuff planned for you! First, we'd like to thank all of you, our loyal players, for sticking by our side through the move, which was rough and drive-sapping for all of us. We appreciate each and every one of you, from those who've been here for more than eighteen months to those who got accepted last app round. You're all such a passionate, talented bunch, and we thought that for this Valentine's day we'd give you a token of our love.
On Saturday, the 11th of February:
Weather in Johto has a history of being...intense. If you've seen the weather report, you'll know that the days leading up to the 11th have been wintry hell. And yet, on Saturday at dawn, the skies clear mysteriously, displaying a bright, cheerful sun. Temperatures soar up to 10ºC/50ºF in the early morning, burning away the winter fog. At around 11AM, the heat really starts, peaking at 22ºC/71ºF at midday. By now characters are probably uncomfortable in their winter clothes and should think and about changing. It gets muggy and uncomfortable at night, people being advised to put tarps or any kind of protective shield under their sleeping bags so as not to wake up in a puddle of melted snow. Dawn on Sunday breaks over patches of spring-green grass.
No, it doesn't bode well: at around 6:30AM the first swarm reports start coming in.
Luvdisc. Not just in southern saltwater, either, which is their natural habitat: clogging up the rivers and streams, too. Even terminal lakes are affected, to the deep consternation of even the most talented pokémon researchers. Phones are ringing off the hook in every pokémon center, and the news just keeps getting stranger and stranger: pods of Lapras, as far east as Route 27...singing. As loud as they can.
It's not just the Lapras, either: Chansey, Happiny, Togepi, Jynx and Smoochum are cropping up along the roads, in much larger numbers than normal; they're singing, too. It's honestly not that memorable a melody, but it has the virtue of blanking out the background music. In fact, by the time you've listened to it for a minute or so...you'll forget it's there.
There's the rub: the song makes people happy.
Oh, not that kind of happy, you perverts. It just makes people a little more relaxed, a little kinder, a little less inhibited. A little bit...lovey-dovey? Maybe. How much your character is affected, and in what way is entirely up to you, of course. Symptoms can range from a mild case of the giggles to a full-on drunken stupor of the happy variety.
The effect increases as the hours go by: by the time the 13th rolls around, your character might be feeling pretty buzzed on these strange doki doki emotions. In fact, they might suddenly feel...strangely attracted to people. Gosh, isn't it nice to have friends?! Friends rock, you guys! They should have a party to celebrate friendship! Maybe the person they just met is suddenly their BFF, who knows? Maybe their long-time crush looks really appetitizing right then...or maybe someone who definitely isn't their SO. (Awkward.) Again, and we can't stress this enough—how and how much are up to the players to decide.
Eventually, also on the 13th, Ralts, Kirlia and Gardevoir will make an appearance, attracted by the happy feelings all over Johto and Kanto, and adding their own positive psychic vibes! Following the Lapras pods are uncommonly large numbers of Milotic, as well. Singing? You bet.
On V-day, your character wakes up to find...a box of chocolates.
Oh, and an egg. But mmm, chocolate. The nice kind, too. Red ribbon heart-shaped box and everything!
What's inside the egg? It's V-day, I bet you can't guess.
That's right! The egg contains one possibly shiny Gen V pokemon of your choice! Here's a handy list for you to peruse at your leisure.
Shiny, you say?! Yep! There will be 10 shiny slots available, which interested players may sign their characters up for. On the 11th, names will be drawn via a randomizer to determine who gets a shiny. If you don't want any of the Gen Vs, feel free to have the egg contain any pokémon from the previous generations; you may also sign up for a shiny slot for a non-Gen V pokémon egg. Remember: there's a HIGH CHANCE that you'll come out empty-handed, so no hard feelings, please. Shinies are all about luck! Please refer to the end of the post in regards to shiny pokémon and breeding, as we plan to make them more of a regular occurrence in the future.

Also on the fourteenth, the weather's still unseasonably warm, though not as strangely hot as it's been the last two days. It feels like spring, not summer! It's bright, and sunny, and about 15ºC/60ºF outside. The snow's melting, there's a fresh, flowery scent in the air...even the pokémon are feeling great! Alomola appear in the rivers, and a few, shy little Audino seem to tag along with the bigger Chansey, singing along and making merry. When the sun falls, great swarms of Woobat and Swoobat roost in the trees, continuing the night-time vigil.
On the 15th, things wind down a bit. The wind picks back up, and the song dims as the pokémon begin to head back to wherever they came from. Characters may begin to come out of whatever lovey-dovey/super friendship/HAPPY FEELS stupor they've been in for the last 72 hours: did they wake up with someone strange? Someone familiar? Does their pokegear now have 29 news contacts? Did they catch a pokémon they don't remember meeting? Did they spend the entire event bitching because the traveling buddies wouldn't stop partying and making kissy faces? Woops!
If you're stuck for ideas, you can always combo this event with the CR/lottery meme!
The wild pokémon will be available for capture until the 16th, at which point the weather will go back to normal, and the routes will become clear again as mysteriously as they were full.
You might be asking yourself...
What's available to catch here, again?
On the 12th: Luvdisc, Lapras, Chansey, Happiny, Togepi, Togetic, Togekiss, Jynx and Smoochum.
As of the 13th: Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir, Milotic.
As of the 14th: Audino, Alomola, Woobat, Swoobat.
What level will these new wild pokémon be at?
The wild pokémon's levels will be in line with whatever route or region they're currently in. They will be available anywhere and everywhere, but the evolved pokémon (Togekiss, Chansey, Gardevoir, Jynx) will only be available in areas where the native wildlife is level 15 or above.
Will any of these wild pokemon be shiny?
Yes, actually! But before you start cheering, we're putting a cap on these, since they're meant to be extremely rare. Here's the breakdown:
2 shiny Luvdisc - Feferi (
abdications), Russia (
meatysoviet)
1 shiny Lapras - Luke (
hintcoinplz), Larry (
failures)
1 shiny Happiny - Homura (
repetieren), France (
francia), Rangiku (

2 shiny Togepi - Saber (
fates), John (
ghostytrainer), Ouka (
worththeclub)
2 shiny Smoochum - Gluttony (
mayieatthat), Asuza (
idlewanderlust)
2 shiny Ralts - Byakuya (
oshu), Asuma (
youngforhisage), Clive (
vengefulyears), Vriska (
8etterl8), Josh (
usedfeatherdance)
1 shiny Audino - Rose (
breedslilacs), Youji (
coolestcat), Other Father (
pianokeys)
2 shiny Woobat - Ken Ichijouji (
empireofmymind), Chloe (
strauchler)
If you'd like for your character to catch one of these, please put down their name. If we have more sign-ups than available slots, we'll draw names on the 11th with a randomizer to keep things fair for everyone in each timezone.
YOU MAY NOT SIGN UP THE SAME CHARACTER FOR A SHINY EGG AND A SHINY WILD POKEMON. IT IS POSSIBLE TO SIGN UP FOR EITHER AND OBTAIN NO SHINIES. It's all luck of the draw, people.
Can a shiny pokémon have shiny babies?
First things first: only registered Breeders can obtain shiny pokémon eggs through breeding. A trainer may attempt to breed their shiny pokémon, but this will never result in a shiny egg, no matter how often they try. The chances of a shiny offspring are 1/50 (2%) with one shiny parent, and 1/25 (4%) with two shiny parents. We leave it up to the individual breeders to calculate the possibility for each clutch. Shinies will becomes available in very limited numbers in monthly weather swarms, so keep your eyes peeled on that weather report tag!
Are there any Gen Vs that my character can't obtain? What about pseudo-legendaries?
Victini (UDex #000) is a legendary and cannot be obtained through the egg drop, however Larvesta (#142) and Zorua (#076) are fair game. True legendary pokémon are of course forbidden. If you require more clarification, let us know.
Can Gen V pokemon have their Hidden Abilities?
Not at this time, as the Hidden Ability only manifests in the Dream World or under other unusual circumstances.
Will there be a convenient way to move my characters around during this event?
The schools of Lapras will be happy to give your character a ride along the waterways, cutting travel time by half! Sadly, not all routes have rivers... If you really would like your character to be SUDDENLY ELSEWHERE, stray Kirlia and Gardevoir might teleport them at a moment's notice!
What about Deerling? They change with the seasons, right?
The Deerling will change with the seasons in real-time, meaning...very slowly. The eggs will hatch in late February, meaning they'll be Winter Form and will start to show signs of Spring form as the weather gets warmer. It's the miracle of nature. :')
We hope that answers most of your questions! You can use this post to note down which pokémon you'd like to get, and plot with other players!
