This was a fun first round of secrets, everyone! Gym leader and trainer alike, it was very fun reading all of your submissions and we would like to thank you on behalf of the entire EV News Staff! The love, the heartbreak, the friendship, the deep, dark, secrets!
- EV Editors
This was a fun first round! We'd like to issue a reminder that for whenever we choose to do this again, please submit your secrets in image form, as we will not be turning text secrets into images ourselves. We did a few this time, but next time they will be omitted.
The secrets will be broadcast via Pokégear as a slideshow, which one can pause and skip as wished. Questions, comments, etc. go here. Thank you for participating! Sorry about the short notice; next time, we'll think ahead of time.
You're free to use this post for IC reactions if you'd like, and if you put "Anonymous" in the header of your comment it will ICly show up as such. It'll count for AC!

Stupid, stupid, the hell is a bunch of footprints supposed to mean, stupid, who cares, we're all too old for this, stupid, a foxmonster isn't anybody's mom no matter how many tails it has, stupid, damn right nobody gives a...
[His voice trails off. There's a look on his face like he's been punched in the stomach.]
[video]
I'm sure the secret maker knows it's not a mother, but... You can't blame them for feeling that way if the pokémon is caring like one, can you?
[video]
[video]
A-and even so! Animals have feelings and can care for others too! I have a friend who speaks to them at home.
[video]
[Normally he'd say animals are animals and treating them like people is pointless sentimentalism, but shit, this is a little girl, and she has a point that pokemon aren't your average dogs and cats.]
All right, maybe they're different, but they're still a long way off from a person.
What, they talk to normal animals? What's the point of that?
[video]
[She pouts a little.]
...he talks to them sometimes and they're quite helpful. Sometimes they give us directions. You shouldn't be so closed off to the idea.
[video]
Kid. You can talk to animals, but they can't talk back. Even the ones here just make the same weird noises over and over.

They're people's feelings, and it's mean to make fun of them.

[usually he'd be able to blow it off without a second thought, but with that picture staring him in the face its not so easy.]
That's why they shouldn't be telling people these things, even without their names attached. Secrets are secret for a reason, and once it gets out theres no putting it back. There's things nobody needs to know.

You don't see me going around telling people how I feel about things.

Just when he's getting ready to swallow his pride long enough to co-sign on Blake's grouchiness, though, the old man gets this weird look on his face, and Yusuke, while not necessarily concerned about him, finds the sudden absence of a scowl on Blake's face... jarring. Like if you were looking at a bulldog and it suddenly became less ugly. (Sorry, Steve. He still likes you.)
It's against his better judgment, all things considered, but after a moment of thinking it over, Yusuke says "to hell with it" and sends Blake a video response anyway. The contents of the video are different than what he had originally planned, but well... whatever. YUSUKE DOES WHAT HE WANTS, OKAY, and that includes showing up on the screen of Blake's 'Gear and asking:]
What's your problem?
[Don't worry, Blake: he might be asking out of some measure of genuine curiosity, but he still manages to sound pretty rude about it. Wouldn't want things to get weird, after all.]
video;
[There's a face Blake's not thrilled to see. He's not in any mood to take the kid's crap.]
He's ready for a barrage of bullshit, but what he gets is a lot simpler and takes him off guard. The nice, straightforward none of your damn business he means to say doesn't come.]
Thought I saw something I recognized.
video;
... okay.
[... yeah, so if Blake were a friend, this would probably be the moment when Yusuke would ask about it. But he isn't, and he's a much older guy, too, which almost makes their dynamic even more unsuited to Yusuke doing something really stupid and uncomfortable like asking him if he's going to be all right. Not that he would in the first place, of course, given how rotten their relationship is, but-- you know-- dammit, the point is, this is awkward and Yusuke is starting to regret even saying anything. The only reason he'd gone through with it was because he'd figured Blake'd make it easy on him and tell him to fuck off so he could then mouth off back at him, not... actually sort of answer his question.
So yeah, just. Pardon Yusuke while he sits there looking vaguely uncomfortable and at a loss, Blake. Seems like you managed to catch him off guard, too.]
video;
Just an old mess from back home that keeps sticking around to haunt me.
[Though he knows he didn't kill Ethan Mars, the sense of responsibility isn't so easy to shake.]
[He didn't kill him, but he could have.]
[He realizes he's staring at the ground and makes himself stop it.]
Huh. So it is possible to shut you up.
video;
Yeah, well...
[And then, with a bit of concentrated effort, Yusuke looks back at the camera, slaps on what ends up being a marginally less bratty version of his Tough Guy expression, and asks Blake, at a normal pitch and with the usual note of sarcasm in his voice:]
What the hell did you expect, a nugget of wisdom? I can dig out the fortune I got from this cookie the other day, if you're feeling desperate for advice.
video;
[Blake tries to get his ire to rise, but it won't go much of anywhere. The good, strong anger slips through his fingers. He looks at the phone and only sees a kid.]
[The look of an abashed asshole is reflected on both sides of the screen.]
They don't make anything with advice that'll help this, kid.

Besides, Pokémon are more intelligent than your average fox.
[Silly Blake. You've been here how long now?]
no subject
[Being here doesn't mean he has to learn or accept anything.]
agh, I could have sworn I tagged this back. D: Sorry for the lateness!
I gotta admit, though, your reactions are kind of refreshing in a roundabout way. It'd be tough picturing someone like you getting all chummy with Pokémon like the rest of this world.
No prob!
[As he idly scratches his Snubbull's head] Nah, I'm not about to go basing my life around some little animal mutants.
no subject
[Yeah, it's one of those JRPG things.]
And I can't fault that. I've got no qualms with my team, but the level of fixation the natives have is kind of frustrating sometimes.
no subject
[Blake is absolutely fine with knowing nothing about that.]
Yeah, they worship these damn things. Can't even find a bag of chips that isn't named after a pun about them.
