"But we still need to find Ace Reporter Kennedy!" It wasn't every day that Anderson Cloyster, CEO of EVNews was this impassioned, but people were starting to get nervous. Rumors were starting to spread about how dangerous it is to be a reporter in Johto, and, as a result, the summer interns were merely trickling in. "Last year, it was different! We had so many applications for interns, we had to turn some away and we could fire people freely! This year, we had to sacrifice the donut intern because there simply aren't enough interns!" Depressed, commiserating, executives muttered in mourning. All but one executive seemed distracted by the concept of fetching their own donuts. She stood up, silently, knowing it was the only way to get a committee of starving adult men to stop paying attention to their stomachs. "Yes, Katie Crobat, what is it?" Anderson held faith in Katie's ideas. Her new talk show, Katie, was off to a phenomenal start. "Anderson, I believe we have something to find Ace Reporter Kennedy. You see, I noticed, in our EVNews special, that the gym leader Sabrina can communicate with the departed. At the very least, we can use this to locate Ace Reporter Kennedy, if he is indeed dead, and salvage our workplace image through that." Anderson Cloyster's eyes lit up with the suggestion. He wanted to take it a step further, but he knew that, unlike most people, Katie had a tricky thing called morals and values. Someone else would have to jump in and make a suggestion quickly to keep the momentum going. And, of course, the most soulless person in the room made it. Bill O'tillery, without missing a beat, chimed in, "Hey! We should broadcast it to the public at large! It'll show that we care about our newspeople, even in death to give them a proper burial and the ratings would be massive. Think about it! We can even bring in some other gym leaders that'd be interested. Gym leaders, seances, ghost stories? What's there not to like?!" The room was dead quiet. A peaceful, hopeful expression crawled across Katie's face. Then the room broke up into loud cheering. Anderson quickly turned to the secretary, who was feverishly typing away, "Isabelle! Contact Morty and Sabrina, ASAP! We have a show to put on!"

Hello, denizens of Kanto and Johto! We have a bit of excitement. As you noticed, we have a little rain and an event coming up for you guys. Now, you might be wondering what do Ace Reporter Kennedy and Sabrina have to do with an upcoming plot where the title implies fossils...

Here's what's going down. On the night of the Seance (July 23rd at 11:30 PM), Sabrina will use her psychic powers to try to connect with a possibly dead Ace Reporter Kennedy. Unfortunately, due to radio waves, the time being exactly 12:00 and a massive audience, Sabrina's call for Ace Reporter Kennedy to rise is going to cause, well, just about every fossilmon in existence to rise.

And they do not like the changes that happened. They'll start to swarm and run amok, trying to reclaim what was once theirs.

The Gym Leaders, and Kanto/Johto at large, are going to call on each and every trainer to assist, either by fighting off or catching the ancient pokémon to stave off the destruction of the entire region until Sabrina can find the right spell to placate them once more.

At first, only the first evolution of all fossilmons will be found. This includes Kabuto, Omanyte, Lileep, Anorith, Shieldon, Cranidos, Tirtouga, Relicanth and Archen. Their levels will be the same as other pokémon in the area.

However, on the 27th Aerodactyl and the evolutions will arrive and cause chaos. This means Kabutops, Omastar, Cradily, Armaldo, Bastiodon, Rampardos, Carracosta, and Archeops will be around to join the fray. Their levels will be five levels above other pokémon in the area, and they will tend to be more aggressive.

On the 29th, Sabrina will finally find a way to calm the pokémon and they will return to being just glorified rocks, including the ones you catch. But don't worry and don't get rid of them! Brock will make an announcement stating that he's perfected reviving fossilized pokémon and has made miniature copies of the machines to revive the ones that were caught and they'll be delivered to each pokémon center and ready for use on August 5th. You might want to beat the crowd, so arrive there bright and early! It's not like they ever close anyways.

To sum this all up in a pretty tl;dr timeline!
July 24th - Kabuto, Omanyte, Lileep, Anorith, Shieldon, Cranidos, Tirtouga, Relicanth and Archen show up after a botched seance.
July 27th - Aerodactyl, and the evolutions of the previous listed pokémon will show up.
July 29th - Sabrina will finally put the ancient pokémon to rest, petrifying them and ending the event. Brock will announce his invention.
August 5th - Brock's invention becomes available to use at PokéCenters everywhere.

Event Specific F.A.Q.

Now, time for some select questions, concerns and answers!

Will all fossil pokémon be available in every location?
No. Only Kabuto, Omanyte, Aerodactyl and its evolutions will be available everywhere, since they are Kanto fossil pokémon.

Anorith and Lileep and their evolutions will be near watery places (coasts, lakes, etc.) and surrounding locations (the routes around The Lake of Rage, for example).

Cranidos and Shieldon and their evolutions will be found in rocky places (Mt. Mortar, Dark Cave, etc.) and their surrounding locations (the routes around Mt. Mortar, the routes around Dark Cave, Blackthorn City and Violet City for example).

Tirtouga and its evolutions can be found in sea and coastal places (Route 40, Cianwood City, Olivine City, Goldenrod City, etc), but nowhere further. Relicanth will also swarm around here, making them easy to catch.

Anorith and Archen and their evolutions will be found in grassy plains, forest-like routes and the surrounding areas (Ilex Forest, Route 29, National Park, etc.)

I don't think my character can handle fighting all of these angry wild pokémon!
That's fine! Some ancient pokémon aren't going to be angry and swarming, but merely curious at all of these new changes. If you don't want to have some sort of final dramatic standoff with angry Kabuto, then maybe your character can just marvel at how one got into their house and is attempting to court your toaster!

Will we be able to keep the pokémon we catch?
Yes. At first, when Sabrina quells all of the pokémon, they'll return to being lifeless rocks. But, never to fear, because our lovely gym leader Brock will send miniature fossil revivers to each and every pokécenter, which means taking them to Nurse Joy to get them revived will be a snap and only take a couple of minutes.

Is there any limit to how many we catch?
A limit of two per trainer is encouraged so trading and breeding can be encouraged. These are extinct species, after all!

Will gyms be closed during the event?
Yes, they will because the Gym Leaders definitely want to protect the city. They'll be out and about fighting off the invasions with their elite teams, so behold the spectacular sights!

There's a lot of stuff to remember!

For the characters who got fossils from last year's tournament, will they be able to revive those as well?

Will the revived fossil Pokemon have memories of the event, or will they only remember their lives from before they were, uh, fossils?

When they revert to fossils again, do they revert specifically to the helix/dome/old amber/etc or is it a fossil of that specific pokemon? As in, will a Kabutops be a kabutops fossil, or just a Dome Fossil that would then be revived as a kabuto?

So, Riku is gonna have two things going on. First, the Plume Fossil that he won from the tourny last year will be reviving and having a panic attack, since Muffin gave the okay.

Second, he is... going to take Terror out and try and use her to see if being around other fossil 'mons can FINALLY get through to her.

She will be elated and probably try and socialize with the hordes of angry 'mons. I have this silly mental image of her parking it down next to some other Aerodactyls and just roaring at them while all the fighting is going on.

Beyond that... not sure if Riku's gonna actually catch much. I think he'll be more focused on fighting off the hordes with his silly metal key because, hey. He needs to push his own strength! He may be all over the place, he might not. It depends on if Kairi gets accepted, I'd say.

Botan will be getting Aerodactyl and Archen, Jade will be getting Lileep and Shieldon and Maka will be getting Kabuto and Tirtouga! I can totes talk breeding or summat.

Hokay! Laguna is going to get an Archeops and Omanyte - and he will always be up for breeding, post-event. But he'll also be helping protect the Breeding Center, and perhaps Goldenrod too!

Meanwhile, Vanille is going to Vermillion and will end up with a Cranidos and Tirtouga. (cranidos is my fave fossilmon okay) Of course, she is going to freak out when they return to rock, but.

Sasuke is likely to fly around during the event and get the flyers, since he's more fond of those ones than the land-based. Even if Cranidos is perfect for him and someone should totally grab one and breed and egg for him.

Therefore, I think he's going to get Aerodactyl and Archen for the event to keep, though he's going to be knocking out more than that. Anyone up for talking to Moody McDuckbutt about breeding them?

Tenten will be thrilled. Well, to be fair, kind of in awe at first, then terrified, but then wow look at all these new Pokémon she can catch. And then use on others.

That said, she'll be in Blackthorn City to start with (since Sasuke's birthday was the day before the shit went down), but I'm totally open to her moving around to help people out; likely in the Johto region only since it'd take so long to get to Kanto from there but-- you know what I mean.

Extent of plans so far are kicking fossil butt with her massive team of forty-some Pokémon along with Tsunade, and she'll likely catch at least a Shieldon for herself. Haven't decided if/what kind of other fossil she'll get, but breeding = money so she'll be happy to talk breeding with anyone! :|a

Aradia is going to be THRILLED for the entirety of this event. If her last post (...or any talks with her) didn't clue anyone in, she likes fossil types and dead things and archaeology and will just be over the moon for the entire thing. And she will basically be useless for talks not about fossil pokemon until they leave, which will be sad. :C Also worth noting she'd be up and tuning in for the seance, I guess! SHE SHOULD BE LOCATED IN KANTO FOR THIS EVENT, not sure exactly where but she wanted to go visit friends there before heading towards the cooking-festival city so. She will try to catch omanyte and lileep.

Rin's the second most interested for reasons of medical interest, and will probably snag an anorith. Not sure if she will get a second, but if she did, it would probably be lileep? She will be in Blackthorn with the rest of her group.

Honey is mostly on team "sure let's fight stuff" and will be getting cranidos and shieldon unless something changes. HE OUGHT TO BE IN GOLDENROD, or heading towards Kanto for the cooking shindig.

If Aradia wants extra fossils, Ash can totally catch a Relicanth or an Anorith for her, since he knows she likes them and he'll still be in Cianwood during the event~

....Well the timing for this coincides perfectly with Dorumon's Shelgon evolving, so uhm

once the evolutions show up, there is probably going to be a berserker Salamence running amok around Violet (or wherever he ends up for this), smashing fossilmons and whatever else crosses his path.

P...robably going to get him an Aerodactyl, if only to have Shelgon's evolution allude to the Charizard evolution episode. For the second one I'm just going to wait and see if anything happens nearby or within the travel group for.

Mayuri will be catching an archen! Not because she wants to, but the little flying bugger will steal a couple of her ribbons she bought because they're shiny and stuff and she'll give chase and eventually let him have the ribbons with the promise of becoming a new team member! She's not particularly thrilled over the invasion and will be sitting it out otherwise after discovering that asking them nicely to leave doesn't work.

Any plotting is welcomed! She'll probably want to wait until she gets to Goldenrod and the Breeding Center proper before any talks of breeding commence.

Repliku will probably end up with an Archen, either because he'll try to catch it to be a companion to his Aerodactyl or...something. He'll probably get an Archen for some reason.

And possibly a Tirtouga because I want him to have one.

If anyone needs him, he'll be in the Blackthorn part of...whatever part of the world that city is located in, since he should be around there at that point.

He's a breeder, and if anyone's interested, he might be willing to share his 'mons as long as he gets either a cut of the eggs/money from selling eggs.

I have no real plans for Morgiana and Saber if anyone wants to coordinate something fun!

Sakura I believe will be in Blackthorn along with her ninja brethren, but I'm interested in getting her a Lileep. I'm not sure if there's one in the area, but if anyone plans to breed their own pretty quick, it'd be neat to get her one.

Saber has a tournament prize to have come to life, but maybe that can happen when she's not around for even more hilarity. Congratulations, there is now ancient dinomons rampaging through Goldenrod City. I don't know, it depends on what the people she's hanging out with want to do.

Poor Morgiana is out in the middle of nowhere (aka seafoam islands) is there even anyone in an area nearby who would like to meet up with her haha...

SO I'D BEEN MEANING TO ASK with Saber apparently going to the bug-catching contest and the other shenanigans you'd been talking about whether her hiring this guy to help at the breeding center and/or foster home could be a thing. Since he pretty much doesn't really know what to DO with himself right now but isn't exactly a fan of dealing with PEOPLE but would probably be a-okay with dealing with the 'mons. I'd be more than happy to thread things out in one of the bug-catching logs if that's preferable too but WHERE I AM GOING WITH THIS is that if this sounds like a thing I'd totally be up for revived fossil shenanigans if you want to add to the chaos/give the old man even more reason to question the sanity of whoever's behind this world. |Db

Jin is going to end up with Archen and Aerodactyl from this mess - the Archen is coming easily, the Aerodactyl...not so much. Expect a triumphant post with him showing off all his teeth marks and broken bones.

Lee is getting a a Tirtouga and something else - I 100% want him to get a Shieldon or Cranidos (particularly a Shieldon) but he's going to be sticking around Goldenrod City. So if anyone wants anything that'll be near a coastal area (Tirtouga, Carracosta, Lileep, Cradily, Anorith, Armaldo) and is willing to have their character catch a Shieldon (or Cranidos) and trade him, I would love you down forever.

And Shaun is going to pick up an Anorith, and it will be overly affectionate and hug his face. uvu
