This was a fun first round of secrets, everyone! Gym leader and trainer alike, it was very fun reading all of your submissions and we would like to thank you on behalf of the entire EV News Staff! The love, the heartbreak, the friendship, the deep, dark, secrets!

This was a fun first round! We'd like to issue a reminder that for whenever we choose to do this again, please submit your secrets in image form, as we will not be turning text secrets into images ourselves. We did a few this time, but next time they will be omitted.

C-Casey no! [[Oh my god you traitor John. You are not going to record this! She can't help the snorting okay??? Which she's still doing goddamn you John Egbert.]]

[Sorry, mommy. Casey loves you and all but daddy is daddy! And he's getting the camera because he asked for it.]

Thank you, Casey. There should be a little pink plastic container in there too, you know the one. You can get that out too but don't open it yet, okay? [Casey squeaks in excitement, knowing fll well what is in the box in question as she begins rifling through John's bag once more.]

[John grins wickedly, raising the camera up in front of him with one hand. This means he has less fingers to tickle with, of course, but it's so worth it for the shots he's getting. Luckily for you, Rose, he's not using the camera's video function. Just snapping a few shots of your laugh face.]

[[A few of those shots were blocked by her hand, but he is getting plenty of what he's looking for.

Casey you traitor.

She has to wonder what the container is for though, even if she is still laughing, tears now gathering at the corners of her eyes. Jesus she hasn't laughed like this in forever.]]

[She loves you, mommy. She really does!]

[Eventually, John relents, his fingers ceasing their tickling but his hand remains on Rose's belly to keep her from getting up and trying to counter. With his other hand, he starts scrolling through the pictures on the camera, a bemused expression on his face.]

Now...what was that you were saying about my face earlier? [He turns the camera so that she can see a particularly flattering shot of her own teary-eyed face.] Something about it having the most hilarious expression you've ever seen?

[tentacletrainer]

[[It takes her a moment to recover, still stuck giggling every now and then and wiping at her eyes. And whens he looks at the picture she can't help but start laughing again.]]

Fuck you! [[It's a very loving "fuck you" though.]]

[ghostytrainer]

Love you too!

[He's still grinning wickedly as he turns the camera off and hands it back to Casey in exchange for the container.]

[He pops the lid off as Casey returns the camera to it's rightful place. Getting to his feet, John pulls what appears to be some kind of treat out of the container.]

And for my oh so helpful funny-bunny...a reward! [Casey takes the treat all too happily, squeaking in joy before devouring it. John gives her what would be a hair ruffle if she were a human before replacing the lid and returning the container to his bag.]

[He then turns to offer Rose a hand up.]

[tentacletrainer]

[[She snorts, taking his hand.]] I see. So you've trained her to betray her mother then. It all makes sense now.

[ghostytrainer]

Hey now. You didn't become mommy until how long after I was already daddy? There's no training involved in this, Casey's loyalties will just always lie with me, sorry to say.

[He turns to the Lopunny and scratches her behind an ear, prompting a happy, almost-purr like noise. You know, if bunnies could purr.]

[tentacletrainer]

[[Sorry John. She's going to have to work on changing that. She chuckles.]] I still call shenanigans on that.

That's cool, you are free to call that if you want. But you are wrong!

[He folds his arms over his chest, looking satisfied.]

I know that's a hard thing for you to face! But I have faith that you can come to terms with it.

[Blake is absolutely fine with knowing nothing about that.]

Yeah, they worship these damn things. Can't even find a bag of chips that isn't named after a pun about them.

And, see, I can handle the bad puns. It just confuses me how you don't see any colleges or schools that promote anything but battles. It's more than a little weird.

Yeah, and the service at the place I went to was almost as bad as the fortune I got stuck with. Figures that this place'd rip off Japanese architecture and then screw up the food.

[And of all the things from Japanese culture to screw up, why would it be the food? Some priorities you have, Johto.

(Seriously, though, it's, uh... pretty surprising, actually, how similar some of the buildings around Violet City look to the temples and other buildings he's used to seeing back home. Between that and the fact that the neighboring continent is apparently called Kanto, well... it all feels kind of weird, to say the least. Creepy, too.)

At any rate, Yusuke's not sure he follows Blake, and it's made obvious by the look on his face as he tries to think of the phrase Blake's referencing and comes up with nothing. He's pretty sure he's heard this one before, but uh, CLEARLY, he never bothered to commit it to memory. Such is life. He'll take a guess as to what it is anyway, though, just to be sporting:]

Yusuke scoffs.]

Then I guess most of the adults I know are braindead. I mean, I kinda guessed that they were anyway, but I pretty much only get that "follow your dreams", "don't lost hope" speech from people way older than me.

[To be fair, this is usually when they're trying to convince him to stay in school, but he figures it should be obvious by now that he doesn't exactly have much in the way of academic aspirations. Who has time to study when you're saving the world, anyway? :I]

[A shadow passes over his face.] Course, that's only when the worst is something you can see coming.

[He looks up, some of the old asshole coming back into his expression] What would your dream be, anyway, setting fire to some shit in a parking lot?

No. Well, I mean... yeah, but they got it from us. It's more of a regional thing in Japan, though; I was kinda surprised to see 'em here.

[Aside from that, Yusuke is pretty sure Chinese people from China don't sell fortune cookies, that it's just Chinese Americans who popularized it overseas - or at least, that's what Keiko's dad told him, anyway, and given that the guy owns a restaurant, he feels pretty secure in trusting him to know his food trivia.

(Now that he thinks about it, he hasn't visited the Yukimuras' restaurant in ages; maybe once he busts loose from this joint and kills Sensui, he'll pop in to see how they're doing. Like, "oh hey, how's it going, guys? Me? Oh, y'know, just getting kidnapped to Animal Planet for X number of months and slaying crazy psychics bent on destroying the planet and everyone in it. The usual. What's on the lunch menu?" Hell, knowing Mr. and Mrs. Yukimura, they'd probably just think, 'oh, there goes Yusuke, kidding us again' and laugh it off. What good people.)

Yusuke doesn't have anything to say in response to Blake's explanation of the "hope and hands" phrase - he just kind of gives him a look of recognition, like, "oh riiight", and doesn't comment otherwise - but he's got plenty of opinions about all the other stuff Blake says, none of which necessarily reflect disagreement with his cynicism. In fact, it seems like he might... actually be starting a conversation with him! Alert the presses!]

I dunno, old man. Just 'cause you can see the worst coming doesn't always mean you're prepared for it.

What matters is how well you can bullshit when it comes.

[And if there is anything Yusuke is an expert at when it comes to navigating sticky situations, it's bullshitting. Fake it 'til you make it! That's the Yusuke Urameshi way of getting things done. Also, if something tries to bite you in the ass, knock it the fuck out.

On that lovely note, hey! Looks like Blake is back to insulting him. That's a good sign. It even gets on Yusuke's nerves, as comments like that are wont to do, but rather than snap back and get all blusterous and aggro, he snorts derisively and gives Blake a steely look and a tight-lipped smirk, his tone of voice almost casual as he tells him:]

Nah, arson's not really my thing. I'm more of a "breaking and entering" type of guy, with an emphasis on the "breaking".

[He's also a "shoplifting" type of guy, but he's just, ah, gonna keep that one to himself. Knowing his luck, he'd run into this dirtbag at the Mart later, or something, and that would undoubtedly turn into the biggest pain his ass has encountered since getting here (menagerie of animals excluded).]

[When it comes to bullshit, Blake's taken and dispensed his share. A lot of the time all you had to do to get somebody to spill was to act like you knew everything already.]

[The kid looks more like himself when he gets that jackass gleam back in his eye. It's more solid ground, but Blake still can't quite manage to get as pissed off as he should.]
