Outbreak: epilogue

The Jenny on the screen stands some distance away from the foundations of the Goldenrod Pokémon Center. Not a lot of it is left, and it’s made all the more clear now, when the rubble has been cleared away so reparations can get started. Her arms are dotted blue, an absurd extension of her uniform, but she looks more frustrated than unnerved when she speaks into the mic that’s held out to her.

“… recent attacks on the Gyms, but it’s too soon to say if they’re connected to the Center attacks on more than a superficial level …”

Proton snorts. Judging by the crossed arms and smug smile, he’s pleased. He never did think particularly highly of the police force, but then again, why should he? They’ve consistently done absolutely nothing of value to deal with Team Rocket and this time will be no different.

“… any idea what caused the epidemic?” asks the reporter, and the Jenny tenses momentarily before answering.

“It’s still unclear”, she says in the way that means she honestly doesn’t know, no matter how many Joys or Professors she’s spoken to. “But rest assured that we’ve enlisted the help of experts and we’re working on finding out --”

Archer turns the TV off. Proton turns that smug smile towards him, not bothered in the slightest by the cold as he leans against the desk.

“So that didn’t go as planned”, he says, and manages to sound pleased about it. Almost giddy. “But oh, did we learn.”

Archer doesn’t pay him quite as much attention as Proton would like, but he has to focus on making sure his hands aren’t shivering too badly when he sorts through the paperwork in front of him. His skin is still frosty, glittering, beautiful, but he came down from the high of it a few days ago and has since then been fighting what feels like an intense reverse fever. But he does look up at Proton with a wry smile of his own, willing to indulge. All things considered? Team Rocket still came out on top. “So what’s your plan?”

“Don’t know yet.” Not that it seems to bother him. He has that look about him again; slightly wild-eyed, smile almost twitching at the edges. “We know how far we can take it now. With a few modifications, maybe we can go even further than that. There is so much potential here.” He lets his smile take on that cruel quality he’s gotten known for in the organization when he adds, “And they still won’t know what’s coming.”

And so this plot winds down! All powers should be gone by now, but the mutations will stay with you for quite a while. Feel free to enjoy the side effects while they last.

Remember that the Saffron, Ecruteak and Goldenrod Pokémon Centers will be down until September. Until then, temporary camps are set up, where people may volunteer to help out with various chores or construction. For now, they’re setting up free computers and healing areas to care for the wounded people and pokémon, but at the moment there are no healing machines in these cities which means that the quick healing will be unavailable for now. Stock up on potions!

Another important thing: the Gyms in Blackthorn, Mahogany, Vermillion, Ecruteak, Goldenrod, Saffron and Violet will be down for two weeks thanks to Rocket attacks.
