Oh, they already have the skates sans wheels, since they were wearing them at the canon point they came from.

A reference image of the wheels is here. I didn't realize that they were added into slots in the wheel mechanics rather than covering them, so it seems like it would be possible for the bladed parts to just be removed and them having to build a new outer casing.
