Late returning to this forever but I had a thought.

When the city's overrun, want to help Malik "defend" the Game Corner once you've got your team, Yuugi? Now that he's an employee he'll want to ~ensure it doesn't get hurt in the looting~ (ie, provide a reason to outsiders why the GC got off easy/have a specific place from which to secretly be helping to direct the looting). And if you're where he can see you, he doesn't have to broadcast nobody target Mutou Yuugi, that one's mine for later. Which would be horribly inconvenient.
