What if they're Edo Tensei'd? Those are kind of 'monsters', and would be generic enough when added to 'humanoid...people' that they could be 'like' their monsters without actually being them? Monsters with disturbingly familiar tails could be interesting too... :|6
Summons might work, but they'd probably only be for the ninja who have or are pretty closely familiar with summoned creatures, right? To the others they'd just look like...animals.
